The Oracle Challenger. Pilot/Owner Sean D. Tucker (A Riverside native.), the greatest aerobatic pilot ever.
Sean was involved in a practice accident on April 4th, 2006. He bailed out at 8,000 ft. after 15 minutes of attempting troubleshooting on the problem. He finally bailed out after the control stick broke. He became entangled on the tail for a moment, but parachuted to safety. The plane, however, after a total of 10 complete, ground-up, rebuilds, is a complete write-off! I got to see the last performance of this aircraft.

Oh, damn, good thing I got to see it perform when I did. That's a complete and total shame that its wrecked now, though I wonder if it was bound to happen eventually. Some of the stuff Tucker did in that thing was crazy.

Like tanks, airplanes, and really cool cars? Then come check out my gallery.

Check out these cool clubs.

Yeah, he did things with that plane that fixed wing aircraft shouldn't be able to do. He'll be back though. That's his livelihood. I'm sure he's up in Salinas putting something together right now!

It's good to hear he bailed safely, real shame about the plane though. I must be living under a rock to have missed hearing about it. I assume he'll be flying again, but any idea what kind of craft? Be strange to see him in another plane.

Well, he'll probably modify another Pitts. He always has in the past. It'll probably look fairly similar to the old Challenger. That plane changed so much in the last 15 years. He basically replaced parts so often that once every other year, it was a completely different aircraft.
They said he's going to continue the rest of the season as planned, so, he must have a spare.

ancient chineese pondering:

If you have a wooden boat, and replace a plank of wood every day, after a while, is the boat really the same boat you started with?

think: boat = stunt plane

(ok, i thought it was funny. it's 2am local time, i'm allowed to be lame)

no, no. it works I get it.
I've actually pondered the same thing. That's a daoist ideal. The idea of the impermanent self. (one cannot have a permanent soul because one is not the same on forever.) The idea being that you can't have a soul because you're not the same person you were five years ago because of cellular replacement and what-not. (ok, that's not EXACTLY how it works, but it's similar to that.)

I bet the knew challenger will be even more impressive (maybe a backward loop, who knows )

Sean D. Tucker is definitely my favorite acrobatic pilot. I've been watching him since before I knew what an airplane was. I was happy to see him last year in Hillsboro last year. Too bad he probably won't be in another airshow for another year or so.

I WISH HIM MUCH LUCK

he is currently in the midst of continuing his season, uninterrupted.
When you make that much, and you're sponsor is Oracle, you can afford a back up.

 I guess so. Is he using the ol' black "Collect 1-800" one? Or is there another one? There was a period of 5 or 6 years where I didn't see him...
