MiG 17
NATO designation: Fresco.

I don't know how they come up with those. I know the fighters start with an F: Fulcrum, Fresco, etc. prop bombers start with a B and are single syllable (Bear) and jets start with a B and have two syllables (Blackjack.)
But the MiG 15? Fagot? seriously?

Nellis AFB. 2007.

If you notice, the fighters are two syllables if they are jets as well... and all of them are... the MiG-15 isn't actually supposed to be a slur... [link] The slang version of the word is, but the actual definition is "a bunch of sticks" or "bundling pieces of iron"... As for where they come up with code names, I have no idea... Why'd they call the F-117 prototype "Have Blue"? I think they just have a long list and throw darts, haha...

"fagot", in those days meant "cigarette"
:iconatmosphotography:
No, I understand that, but it's still a strange name for a fighter plane.
