Similar. These guys must have been light on gas for takeoff, 'cause over three days not one of them used burners on takeoff, which was a bit disappointing, but they sure are a beautiful sight.

According to some reading I did, it doesn't need to. They can go close to Mach 2 without them and if need be, can use them to exceed Mach 2.

uh, They can go supersonic in military power (mach 1) but the energy required to go Mach 2 is on an exponential curve, and it's definitely not hitting Mach 2 without burners.

According to the Wikipedia article (which has plenty of citations), the max speed without burners is estimated to be Mach 1.82 and Gen. John P. Jumper, former USAF Chief of Staff, exceeded Mach 1.7 on 15, January, 2005, in supercruise (no burners) mode. It can far exceed Mach 2 in burner but it has limits put on the airframe to prevent over stressing since it can easily exceed it's design limits.
